50th Anniversary of the Freedom Riders

Today we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Freedom Riders here's the story. The first Freedom Ride took place on May 4, 1961 when seven blacks and six whites left Washington, D.C., on two public buses bound for the Deep South. They intended to test the Supreme Court's ruling in Boynton v. Virginia (1960), which declared segregation in interstate bus and rail stations unconstitutional.

In the first few days, the riders encountered only minor hostility, but in the second week the riders were severely beaten. Outside Anniston, Alabama, one of their buses was burned, and in Birmingham several dozen whites attacked the riders only two blocks from the sheriff's office. With the intervention of the U.S. Justice Department, most of CORE's Freedom Riders were evacuated from Birmingham, Alabama to New Orleans. John Lewis, a former seminary student who would later lead SNCC and become a US congressman, stayed in Birmingham.

CORE Leaders decided that letting violence end the trip would send the wrong signal to the country. They reinforced the pair of remaining riders with volunteers, and the trip continued. The group traveled from Birmingham to Montgomery without incident, but on their arrival in Montgomery they were savagely attacked by a mob of more than 1000 whites. The extreme violence and the indifference of local police prompted a national outcry of support for the riders, putting pressure on President Kennedy to end the violence.

The riders continued to Mississippi, where they endured further brutality and jail terms but generated more publicity and inspired dozens more Freedom Rides. By the end of the summer, the protests had spread to train stations and airports across the South, and in November, the Interstate Commerce Commission issued rules prohibiting segregated transportation facilities.

To me this day symbolizes that we has a Nation must continue to always FIGHT for freedom for the next generation. Thank GOD for those Freedom Riders who were thinking of this generation. So I say RIDE ON FREEDOM and LET FREEDOM RIDE ON for the next generation. Check out the website.

MIMI'S Twins and Renewing Vows

One of my favorite International Mega-Super Star singer Mariah Cary and Hubby Nick Cannon welcome their Twins on Saturday morning April 30th which happens to be the couples 3rd year Anniversary. The couple renewed their vows the day after Carey had given birth at the Hospital by Rev. Al Sharpton. Carey delivered the twins by caesarean section at 12:07 p.m. Cindi Berger Carey's Representative says,the baby girl was born first, weighing 5 pounds, 3 ounces, and was 18 inches long; her brother was next, at 5 pounds 6 ounces, and was 19 inches. Berger says they were listening to Carey's "We Belong Together" after the children were born. Cannon, 30, said in a Tweet on Sunday that he was "in the happiest place I've ever been in my life. I never had more amazing things happening. I am humbled by God's Favor!"

In honor of my Gurl Mrs. Cannon I pray GODS BEST 4 U , NICK and the Twins. I dedicated this 1 2 U.

Royal Extravaganza

Today some 2 billion people ALL over the world got up early this morning to witness History in the making Prince William married Kate Middleton in a Royal Extravaganza in London's Westminster Abbey Cathedral Church. As Kate emerge in front of Westminster Abby Church waring a Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen designed prompting swoons of admiration from onlookers. The dress had lacy shoulders and long sleeves with a plunging, sweetheart neckline. She also wore an intricate, hand-embroidered veil topped with a Cartier tiara, on loan from Queen Elizabeth II. Kate showed us ALL the little girls who were watching with there Mother's how to walk into their Queen-ship with Grace, Humility, Confidence, and Pose while Prince William also showed us ALL the little boys who were watching with there father's how to be Devanar, Strong, Humble, and Striking. What this Royal wedding has taught ALL of us that this is NOT just some Fairy Tale Disney movie we ALL grow up watching and loving BUT that their are Prince's and Princess's that live among us and we should NEVER GIVING UP on 1 day Marrying a Prince. So to ALL the little girls that were watching Prince William marry Kate Middleton just know that 1 day you too can Marry a Prince it's NOT just a Disney movie BUT you can say that it is REAL NOT just a fragment of your imaginations. On March 31,1995 Selena Quintanilla-Perez was gun down by a Fan club President. It's now been 16 years since the tragic World of Tejano music lost a Icon and Legend in Selena Quintanilla-Perez. Words can't express what she meant to the Hispanic community, she was the only Female to dominant the Tejano music scene which was regarded has a Male dominated field Selena became the only Woman to surpass ALL of her spectators. She has been my BIGGEST Influence and Inspiration and I just wanted to take this time to say THANK GOD 4 SELENA for the 23years she did grace this Earth with her radiant Smile, Laughter and Amazing Performance's weather it was a Concert or a Television appearance Selena gave it her ALL. Celebrating Woman

As we are coming to the close of March I just want to reflect that the month of March is Woman's History month and I am EXCITED about that. There have been so many Women in my life that have been inspirational and a major influences in my life starting with my Mother, she is not only my biggest Fan but she has showed me how too be a Wife, Mother, Friend and one day even the BEST Grandmother. So today I want to share just some of the Women who have been influential and inspirational in my life like Selena Quintanilla-Perz, Jennifer Lopez, Sheila E., Anita Baker, Oprah Winfrey, Chaka Khan, Michelle Obama and Sonia Sotomayor what I know for sure is that they have ALL taught me that you have to be Bold, Confident, Unique, and Strong and to do it all in Grace. There are countless of other Women that have Impacted my life that I could write a list but I WON'T LOL! Black History Month 365 days

As this is the last day of the Month of February I just wanted to share my LOVE 4 my African American Heritage. I want us as African Americans to not just celebrate us only in the month of February but too celebrate us as a culture 365 days a year NOT just this one month out of the year. Here is how Black History got started.

In 1915, Dr. Carter G. Woodson and Rev. Jesse E. Moorland co-founded the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History (ASNLH). Their goal was to research and bring awareness to the largely ignored, yet crucial role black people played in American and world history. The following year, Woodson published and distributed his findings in The Journal of Negro History. He founded the publication with the hope that it would dispel popular mistruths. He also hoped to educate black people about their cultural background and instill them with a sense of pride in their race.

The son of former slaves and the second black person to receive a degree from Harvard University, Carter Woodson understood the value of education. He also felt the importance of preserving one's heritage and, upon his urgings, the fraternity Omega Psi Phi created Negro History and Literature Week in 1920. In 1926, Woodson changed the name to Negro History Week. He selected the month of February for the celebration as a way to honor of the birth of two men whose actions drastically altered the future of black Americans. Abraham Lincoln, the U.S. President who issued the Emancipation Proclamation was born on February 12th and Frederick Douglass, one of the nation's leading abolitionists was born on February 14th.

Woodson and the ANSLH provided learning materials to teachers, black history clubs and the community at large. They also published photographs that depicted important figures in black culture, plays that dramatized black history, and reading materials.

Dr. Carter G. Woodson died in 1950, but his legacy continued on as the celebration of Negro History Week was adopted by cities and organizations across the country. This observance proved especially important during the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s, a time when the inhumane and unequal treatment of black people in America was being challenged and overturned.
Black Panther Badge: Power to the People

The Black Power Movement of the 1970s emphasized racial pride and the significance of collective cultural values. This prompted the ASNLH, now called the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, to change Negro History Week to Black History Week. In 1976, they extended the week to a month-long observance.

Black History Month is now recognized and widely celebrated by the entire nation on both a scholarly and commercial level. The Association for the Study of African American Life and History continues to promote, preserve and research black history and culture year-round.
